Meloni: ItalyFrance Back Lebanon Cooperation

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that Italy and France have agreed to form an alliance to support Lebanon after the UNIFIL mission concludes at the end of the year. The two countries also discussed the possibility of holding an international conference on the issue. Since 1978, a United Nations force has been deployed in southern Lebanon, consisting of approximately 7,500 soldiers from around 50 countries. Its mandate is set to end in December 2025, according to a Security Council resolution.
