An Algerian court has issued a seven-year prison sentence to former Housing Minister Abdel-Wahid Tamer on charges of corruption, which include money laundering and proceeds from crime within an organized group. The court also imposed a fine of one million Algerian dinars and ordered Tamer to pay compensation to the judicial team amounting to 100,000 dinars, in addition to claims by the treasury amounting to tens of millions. This case is part of a broad judicial campaign against former officials in Algeria following the resignation of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, which has involved prosecutions of more than 30 ministers on charges related to embezzlement of public funds and abuse of power.
