Germany launches AI risk agency

The German government announced plans to establish an Institute for AI Safety aimed at assessing the risks and opportunities presented by advanced artificial intelligence models, with the approval of the National Security Council. The institute seeks to enhance cooperation with international bodies and establish shared standards for the use of AI, especially in light of the increasing cyberattacks, which recorded around 334,000 cybercrimes last year, most of them from external or anonymous sources. The council also discussed security conditions in the Middle East and decided to review crisis regulations, amid growing reliance on AI in educational and domestic settings, with concerns about its impact on parental roles and the development of children’s social skills.
