China dominates global port rankings

By 2025, China had become home to eight of the world's top ten ports in terms of cargo handling and unloading. The volume of shipments reached 18.3 billion tons, and container traffic totaled 354 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The Chinese shipping fleet exceeded 490 million deadweight tons. The ports handled more than 50 million tons of goods and 970,000 container units daily. The movement of ships averaged 98,200 voyages per day, including 1,236 international trips. Waterway corridors contributed a cargo volume of nearly 15 trillion ton-kilometers. Additionally, 469 berths and 2,500 kilometers of high-quality water routes were added during the 14th Five-Year Plan.
