Self-dressing garments aid seniors

Researchers from KAIST and Stanford University have developed self-dressing clothing embedded with soft, air-powered robots that automatically move into place around the body. Designed primarily to assist individuals with limited mobility, such as older adults or those recovering from injuries, the system can put on garments like jackets and pants in about 10 to 21 seconds. The technology aims to improve independence, reduce reliance on caregivers, and support safe, comfortable dressing through soft robotic materials that follow the body's contours. While still in the research phase, clinical testing and addressing practical challenges are needed before such clothing could be available commercially.
