Columbus has launched a Nurse Health Care Navigation Line for nonemergency 911 calls to help assess patients’ needs and suggest appropriate care options. The program aims to reduce costs, free up emergency responders, and improve resource allocation by connecting callers with nurses who can handle many cases over the phone. Since its soft launch, over half of the transferred calls were resolved without hospital or ambulance assistance, with callers able to return to the main 911 line if needed.
