LA County reports 69 rabid bats
Los Angeles County has recorded 69 rabid bats this year, matching last year's peak before the end of the season, mostly found in the Santa Clarita Valley. While the risk of contracting rabies from bats remains low, officials emphasize the importance of avoiding contact and seeking immediate medical advice if exposed. Rabies, a nearly always fatal virus once symptoms appear, is preventable through prompt vaccination, and residents are advised to take precautions around bats both indoors and outdoors.
