UC seeks dismissal of DOJ UCLA antisemitism suit

The University of California has requested a federal judge to dismiss a Justice Department lawsuit accusing UCLA of tolerating antisemitic harassment and is seeking to prevent the repayment of over $2 billion in research grants. UC characterizes the case as political coercion and highlights recent campus reforms undertaken since 2024, including enhanced safety measures and organizational changes, asserting that the allegations rely on outdated events. The DOJ's lawsuit, filed under the Civil Rights Act, claims UCLA showed deliberate indifference to harassment of Jewish and Israeli students from 2023 to 2026, and seeks repayment of funds tied to more than 2,000 research projects.
