Lyft to pay over $270M in wage theft settlement
Lyft will pay $272.5 million to settle a California wage-and-hour lawsuit over misclassification of its drivers as independent contractors between 2016 and 2020. Nearly 87% of the settlement will go directly to drivers, addressing claims they were denied wage protections and workplace rights. The case was part of broader legal actions following the passage of Proposition 22, which allows gig companies like Lyft to class drivers as independent contractors.
