Senate Faces Obstacle in Ending DST
President Donald Trump has expressed support for making Daylight Saving Time permanent, advocating for the passage of legislation known as the "Sunshine Protection Act." Despite a significant House vote in favor, the bill faces opposition in the Senate, primarily from Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who opposes the change due to concerns about darker winter mornings for children. The debate is geographically divided, with Western states citing safety concerns and some coastal states emphasizing the benefits of more sunlight. The issue is complicated by previous attempts at year-round daylight saving time, which were repealed due to public dissatisfaction. The bill's prospects are uncertain as other legislative priorities take precedence in Congress.
