Social media posts challenge El-Sayed’s capitalist claims

Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan, has expressed support for policies such as Medicare for All and taxing top earners. Social media posts from 2019 show support from Detroit's Democratic Socialists of America chapter, which praised his climate stance and endorsed Bernie Sanders, though the group has not officially endorsed his campaign. El-Sayed has publicly described himself as a capitalist who supports government regulation and higher taxes on billionaires, and he has advocated for seizing and converting abandoned plant sites into green public spaces.
