DHS Criticizes Teachers Union Leader over Rhetoric and Anti-ICE Actions

Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, visited Newark’s Delaney Hall migrant detention center to criticize conditions there, claiming detainees are held in inhumane circumstances. DHS officials disputed her portrayal, asserting that detention conditions are not substandard and emphasizing law enforcement efforts. Weingarten linked her criticism to broader debates on immigration policies and accused the government of cruelty towards migrants, contrasting her views with the DHS’s defense of enforcement policies.
