Search team finds Amelia Earhart plane on crab-infested island

A team of researchers has arrived at Nikumaroro Island to investigate possible wreckage of Amelia Earhart's plane, which disappeared in 1937 during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe. The five-day expedition aims to locate the Taraia Object, believed by some to be aircraft debris, amidst challenging weather conditions and large land crabs known for their strength and nocturnal activity. This is the first authorized visit to the island in years, with efforts including equipment transport, vegetation clearing, and sediment dredging to examine the area near the shoreline for evidence of Earhart's lost plane.
