Search resumes for Earhart aircraft

A Purdue University-led team has begun a new search on Nikumaroro Island in the South Pacific for Amelia Earhart’s missing Lockheed Electra 10E aircraft, believed to be submerged in the lagoon. This is the 20th organized expedition, focusing on locating and examining potential aircraft remains using a hydraulic dredge. Past searches and evidence, including satellite imagery, radio bearings, and artifacts, have suggested the plane may be in deep water near the island, with some theories proposing Earhart survived briefly after landing there in 1937.
