L.A. bans selling nitrous oxide to cannabis and tobacco shops
Los Angeles has approved a citywide ban on the sale and distribution of nitrous oxide by cannabis and tobacco retailers, making violations a criminal misdemeanor punishable by fines and jail time. The measure, supported by community groups and students concerned about youth abuse, aims to address rising health and safety risks linked to the gas, which is often inhaled to get high and has been associated with deaths and nerve injuries. Once signed by the mayor, the ordinance will take effect in about a month.
