Spain's monarchs to visit Ceuta amid migration crisis
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited Ceuta to show support amid a migration crisis involving around 15,000 migrants remaining in the city after approximately 80,000 crossed its border, resulting in over 140 deaths. The visit aimed to demonstrate the monarchy’s backing for local institutions and address ongoing tensions caused by the influx of migrants, some of whom have reported abuse by Spanish soldiers. The royal trip also coincided with concerns over social division and the strained Christian-Muslim relations in Ceuta amid ongoing border pressures.
