College Football Playoff to Expand in 2027

A deal is nearing completion to expand the College Football Playoff to 24 teams starting in the 2027 season, with ESPN expected to purchase the additional games through 2031. The new format will include an extra round, though details on the bracket and broadcast rights are still being finalized. The expansion follows a recent 12-team playoff in 2024, after debates between the Big Ten and SEC regarding the playoff size.
