The producer price index rose 6.3% annually in September, the largest increase since 2022, driven mainly by energy costs due to the Middle East conflict impacting oil supply. This surge signals ongoing inflationary pressures, with signs of downstream effects on other goods, and comes amid a wider inflation trend evidenced by recent CPI data. The Federal Reserve faces increased expectations of a rate hike later this month as inflation remains persistent.
