Russia frees US detainee, says Witkoff
Russia has released Stephen Hubbard, an American citizen previously imprisoned on charges of fighting as a mercenary in Ukraine, after a meeting with U.S. officials and Russian leaders. Hubbard, sentenced in 2024 to nearly seven years, was captured two months after fighting for Ukrainian forces following Russia's invasion. The release occurred amid shifting U.S.-Russia relations, with recent U.S. policies and diplomatic efforts influencing the outcome.
