NYC to abolish historic horse carriage era

The New York City Council voted to ban horse-drawn carriages by June 2028, ending a nearly 170-year industry after the death of a teenager in Central Park. The legislation, named Romanch's Law, includes a phased shutdown and provides plans for job training and transition support for more than 150 workers, though financial compensation is not guaranteed. The move received support from animal rights groups and the Central Park Conservancy but faced opposition from industry representatives and critics questioning the absence of concrete financial plans. The bill now awaits the mayor's approval to become law.
