Scientists explain post-danger fear retention

Researchers from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies have discovered a small region in the brain that plays a key role in maintaining the state of fear and alertness after the initial response to a threat. It is believed that this area contributes to the persistence of the feeling of danger, which may explain how ongoing fear leads to disorders such as anxiety and panic. This discovery advances our understanding of the mechanisms regulating fear and could aid in developing new treatments for disorders related to mental states following exposure to a threat.
