Cairo Film Festival Poster Sparks Controversy

The design of the poster for the 47th Cairo International Film Festival, inspired by the character of Fouada portrayed by the late Shadia in the film "Something of Fear," sparked widespread controversy after its publication. Many opinions criticized the image for not matching Shadia's features, and voices from critics and local arts communities were loud and clear. Shadia's niece expressed her dissatisfaction with the presented appearance. Festival president Hussein Fahmy confirmed that the use of artificial intelligence was part of modern technology aligned with the contemporary era. Some critics suggested improving the design to better reflect the artist's features, while still adhering to the festival's vision. In a subsequent development, the festival management modified the poster to preserve the core idea, following feedback emphasizing the need for a design that befits the status of both the artist and the festival.
