NC Child and Motherhood vets 17-year-old marriage in Nasr City
The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood succeeded in thwarting an early marriage attempt involving a 17-year-old girl in the Nasr City neighborhood of Cairo, after receiving an urgent report via the Child Helpline and coordinating with the Public Prosecution. Those involved in the incident were apprehended inside a wedding hall before the marriage was completed, and the relevant authorities confirmed that the marriage had not been finalized to protect the girl's rights. The head of the council emphasized that protecting children from early marriage is a top priority, stressing the importance of confronting practices that threaten children's future safety. Egyptian laws prohibit the documentation of marriage contracts for anyone under 18, and underscore the importance of immediate reporting through the Child Helpline to ensure children are protected from risks.
