Sarah Abdel Aziz on Fou'ad Egypt Cinema Poster
The article focused on a technical proposal by director Sarah Abdel Aziz for the Cairo International Film Festival. The aim was to celebrate the history of Egyptian cinema through the design of innovative posters. The idea was inspired by Fawda, a character played by the actress Shadia, linking her to the symbol of opening a cinema’s water gate. It depicts the Bride of Egyptian Cinema holding a film reel, symbolizing the flow of water entering the Egyptian Opera House, thus promoting the spirit of creativity and cinematic history. Sarah employed various artistic techniques, including traditional tools and artificial intelligence, to enhance her vision. She emphasized that technology is merely a tool in the hands of the creator; the core of the work lies in the idea and design, which are at the heart of creative expression. She was pleased to share her idea with the audience and the festival management, expressing pride in choosing the character of Fawda and using the symbolic water gate as a representation of resistance and liberation. She also conveyed her hopes that her concept would be appreciated as part of efforts to honor and celebrate Egyptian cinema and its history.
