Red Cross Sees Long Recovery for Venezuela

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has confirmed that Venezuela’s recovery from two devastating earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 will take years due to the ongoing aftermath of the disaster. The earthquakes have resulted in more than 5,000 deaths and around 17,000 injuries. Currently, efforts are focused on providing healthcare, psychological support, and access to drinking water, while thousands who lost their homes and loved ones continue to suffer. The infrastructure—health facilities, schools, water and electricity networks—has suffered widespread damage, and approximately 23,000 people are living in shelters. The relief efforts have shifted from saving lives to supporting survivors and rebuilding.
