Dubai Electricity boosts capacity with smart gas turbine control
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) successfully developed and implemented the world's first intelligent, self-controlled system for gas turbines using artificial intelligence, in collaboration with Siemens Energy. The system helped improve operational efficiency and increase the production capacity of fourteen turbines at the Jebel Ali complex by approximately 28.9 megawatts, while saving around 38.95 million dirhams in capital expenditures. The project also contributed to fuel consumption savings estimated at about 8.72 million dirhams, reduced carbon emissions by 28,530 tons annually, and decreased nitrogen oxide emissions by roughly 22.9 tons per year. The project received a 7-star rating in the "Global Best Practices Competition" as the world's best application of artificial intelligence to enhance power plant efficiency and sustainability. This achievement reflects the authority’s ability to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions that improve operational performance and strengthen its global position in innovation and resource sustainability.
