Iran conflict affects Chinese EV exports

Iran conflict affects Chinese EV exports

China's exports of electric trucks are experiencing a significant increase, especially in the context of the war between America and Iran, which has led to rising fuel prices. This has prompted Asian countries such as South Asia and Southeast Asia to rely more heavily on electric vehicles as an alternative to reduce operating costs and carbon emissions. In the four months following the start of the conflict on February 28, China's exports of heavy trucks more than doubled to 16,823 trucks, with half of them destined for Asia. Export figures to South Asia increased by over five times, and to Southeast Asia by nearly threefold. The war has caused diesel prices to rise by 48% in Sri Lanka and 57% in the Philippines, while fuel prices in China have increased by about 15%, making electric trucks a more economically viable investment. The payback period for the trucks has decreased from 28 months to 18 months. As the growth continues, companies expect that rising oil prices will support sustained demand for electric trucks, with China expected to develop cheaper models and expand charging networks to further reduce diesel consumption and carbon emissions across the region.
