Saudi Arabia backs Yemen's economy with 1.9B riyals

During the second quarter of 2026, Saudi Arabia continued its support for Yemen's recovery and development efforts through the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen. Development projects worth 1.9 billion riyals were implemented, targeting the energy, water, education, health, transportation, and agriculture sectors, in addition to supporting the Yemeni budget and strengthening partnerships with international and regional organizations. Support included providing $150 million for fuel derivatives to assist electricity, and executing power generation projects along the coast and Wadi Hadramout with a total capacity of up to 200 megawatts. The program also launched initiatives to enhance water security using solar energy in Marib, rehabilitated 620 housing units in Aden, Taiz, and Lakh, and contributed to establishing schools and medical colleges. Moreover, it organized international development events to discuss strategies for stabilizing the economic and energy sectors in Yemen. These ongoing initiatives continue to support Yemen's stability and sustainable development through more than 300 projects since 2018, aiming to build community capacities and improve living standards.
