Vatican plans solar and farms to supply electricity

The plant's capacity will range between 80 and 90 megawatts, making it one of the largest of its kind in Italy. Solar panels will be installed at high elevations to provide shade for crops and reduce water evaporation. The electricity generated will supply Vatican facilities, including Vatican Radio and hospitals, with any surplus fed into Italy’s grid. Supported by papal backing and political endorsement, the project aims to fully meet the Vatican’s energy requirements. Permit procedures are expected to take between 18 and 24 months, and the Vatican will not benefit from Italian incentives.
