Egyptian Farmers and EGSARD Tackle Desertification

Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk discussed with Nasser Deen El Obaid, Director General of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), to strengthen cooperation in developmental and research projects aimed at enhancing food security and agricultural decentralization in Egypt. They reviewed projects related to improving goat and sheep breeds to support small farmers, a project to exploit rainwater in Matrouh to combat drought, as well as developing adaptive practices to address climate change. The two sides also discussed Egypt’s hosting of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP18) in Sharm El Sheikh, with an emphasis on ACSAD’s support in developing soil and water resources to confront drought.
