The Syrian Petroleum Company has begun pumping gas from the Koniko field in Deir ez-Zor after its rehabilitation, aiming to support the electricity sector in the region. The field, one of the largest gas facilities in Syria, has started production at a rate of 1.5 million cubic meters per day through the activation of two out of five wells, following the completion of technical and maintenance work. The produced gas is directed to treatment plants in Homs to enhance electricity generation and increase power supply hours for citizens, while ensuring a share for Deir ez-Zor Governorate. This step is part of efforts to restore oil and gas infrastructure and regain control of the area, after a history of military shifts and intermittent control over the field, which had suffered severe damage prior to the national rehabilitation process.
