Airbus reduces narrow-body delivery targets in China

Airbus has lowered its long-term demand forecasts for single-aisle aircraft in the Chinese market due to the ongoing expansion of China's high-speed rail network, which has led to a shift in some short-distance travel from air to fast trains. The company now expects to deliver 7,480 narrow-body aircraft in China over the next twenty years, a decrease of 500 aircraft from its forecast last year, taking into account demographic shifts and economic prospects. Beijing continues to invest heavily in expanding the rail network, which reached 50,000 kilometers by the end of last year, with a target of reaching 70,000 kilometers by 2035. This is expected to reduce by 10% the number of domestic flights under six hours. The Chinese market currently estimates a need for approximately 8,830 aircraft over the next two decades, with more than 2,370 aircraft already in operation by Airbus. The company is also continuing to expand its Tianjin facility to meet future demand.
