For the first time, the World Bank has nearly matched the volume of private capital funding with the amount of funding it provides from its own resources. It attracted $112 billion from investors during the fiscal year ending June 2026, compared to $123 billion from its own resources. This comes as part of a strategy to enhance development financing by attracting pension funds, insurance companies, and asset managers, with the aim of preparing projects and stimulating parallel investments. The approach also involves expanding political risk insurance tools and offering financial products to increase private sector participation in development financing. Examples of this include a lithium mine project in Argentina, where the World Bank contributed $400 million out of a total of $775 million raised from private investors. Additionally, the bank is expanding its presence in global financial centers to strengthen the connection between development financing tools and capital markets.
