Leonardo and Vincantieri secure €3.7B navy ship order

Two companies, Fincantieri and Leonardo, announced their success in securing a €3.7 billion contract from the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) to develop and deliver two next-generation naval destroyers for the Italian Navy. The deal includes the development of advanced combat systems, such as a command and control system, a digital AESA radar, and an air and missile defense system from MBDA, with the capability to integrate with unmanned systems. The ships are slated for delivery in 2033 and 2035, replacing the previous Horizon-class destroyers. They will feature a high level of digitization and automation, measure up to 180 meters in length, and have a range of 4,000 nautical miles.
