DP World Group announced the extension of its port terminal concession at the Port of Luanda for an additional 10 years, now lasting until 2051. Since operations began in 2021, the company has invested over $260 million in developing the terminal, resulting in a doubling of container throughput from 177,000 to over 350,000 TEUs within five years, along with adding 28,000 square meters to the yard area. The company plans to invest an additional $90 million over the next two years to expand infrastructure and increase operational capacity, including a new 222-meter-long quay, expansion of the terminal area, and equipment upgrades. These enhancements will enable the terminal to accommodate two Post-Panamax vessels simultaneously, bolstering Luanda’s position as a key trading hub in Africa, boosting regional trade flows, and reducing vessel turnaround times. The expansion aims to improve efficiency, attract investments, support sustainable economic growth in Angola and the region, and reinforce the terminal’s role as an important regional logistics center.
