EU funds 46 key raw material projects

The European Commission announced the selection of 46 strategic projects to enhance the security of critical raw materials, aiming to reduce dependence on external suppliers and diversify sources within the European Union. The projects cover essential materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt, and include extraction, processing, and recycling operations across 16 member states. These initiatives support the goals of the Critical Raw Materials Act of 2030, which seeks to ensure that 10% of consumption is met through local extraction, 40% through processing, and 25% through recycling. Over 102 applications were submitted, with 25 projects from the initial list already evaluated. More than two billion euros in financial support have been mobilized, and a new round of applications is expected to be announced by the end of 2026.
