Microsoft has launched the new AI processor "Azure Maya 300," designed to reduce dependence on external processors such as Nvidia and AMD. This processor, which joins the "Maya 100" and "Maya 200" series, aims to improve the efficiency of running AI models and decrease energy consumption, providing around 40% more codes per megawatt compared to GPU-based systems. It also increases code productivity sevenfold within a rack through 96 chips. Currently, the processor is used to run productivity applications like Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams assistants. The move reflects major companies' trend toward building their own chips to enhance performance and reduce reliance on external processor suppliers, even as cloud service providers continue to purchase Nvidia processors to meet increasing demands.
