Farookat Al-Sharq, Umm Kulthum, visited Iraq for the first time in November 1932. The Iraqis welcomed her warmly despite the fact that their familiarity with her music was limited to listening to gramophones and previous recordings. During her visit, she performed at the Al-Hilal Hotel and Theater in Baghdad, where her concert received wide media coverage and the audience was captivated. She met Iraqi singer Salima Basha Murad and learned from her how to sing an Iraqi song in the local dialect; this was the first time she performed a piece with an non-Egyptian composer and in a dialect different from her own. She also held official concerts, and the attendees praised her performance, while she emphasized that her success was thanks to God's guidance. Later, news spread that she had recorded an Iraqi song performed by Salima Murad without mentioning her name. Subsequently, the recordings were withdrawn from circulation, but a rare recording of her singing the same song was later discovered.
