Belgium Protest Follows France

Hundreds of people protested in Brussels and Liège against the high cost of living, during which acts of violence and vandalism occurred. The police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters. About ten individuals were detained in Brussels for disorderly conduct, and fires were set in trash containers, especially in Brussels and Liège. These protests come amid a surge of anger since early October, particularly following demonstrations by workers and students protesting against increases in university fees, with tensions rising significantly since a union demonstration on October 9th, which drew approximately 30,000 participants.
