The olive oil sector in Tunisia is facing financial challenges as the 2026-2027 season begins, amid expectations of a production decline of approximately 47%. Production is decreasing from 470,000 tons to about 250,000 tons due to the phenomenon of alternate bearing. At the same time, the value of exports increased to approximately 4.006 billion dinars during the first nine months of 2026, representing a 37.4% rise compared to the same period last year, despite the decrease in produced quantities. The Central Bank of Tunisia has called for doubling the financing directed to the sector to support farmers, mill owners, and exporters, with the aim of ensuring continued production and stimulating exports. The government is also urged to support small farmers, improve access to funding, and strengthen high-value-added packaged export markets.
