Baghdad Moves Toward Waste Privatization

Baghdad Municipality has announced its intention to privatize the waste sector and convert city waste into a source of energy. The capital handles approximately 10,000 tons of waste daily and is working on developing modern and safe methods to process it. An agreement has been reached with the Ministries of Environment and Electricity to treat and burn 3,000 tons of waste daily in the Nahrawan area to produce around 100 megawatts of electricity, with a future plan for a similar project in Abu Gharib. The initiative aims to improve waste management and produce energy sustainably.
