US flag incident sparks debate in Baghdad
The Iraqi authorities announced the arrest of individuals involved in an incident involving the American flag during a rally organized by the Popular Mobilization Units in Baghdad on the occasion of "Sovereignty Day." This followed directives from Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Falah al-Zaydi, to form a committee to investigate the incident. The statement confirmed that the relevant authorities apprehended the perpetrators, though they did not disclose the number of those involved or the nature of the charges against them. The incident occurred during the "Victory of the Martyrs" march, where vehicles were shown passing over the American and Israeli flags, coinciding with Iraq's celebrations of the conclusion of the international coalition's mission and Iraq's assertion of its sovereignty and efforts to protect its land.
