Agriculture Pushes for Cheaper Food Through Customs Support
The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture announced the launch of government measures to address rising food prices. It has decided to suspend customs duties and taxes on imported animal products, especially eggs, chicken, and live meats, to facilitate their entry and reduce prices. The ministry is also collaborating with the private sector to support the production of table eggs at subsidized prices, amid concerns that prices will continue to rise due to fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate following its increase to 1,520 dinars. Although no official decision has yet been issued regarding the complete importation of eggs, the ministry will review the upcoming steps in coordination with relevant authorities to stabilize the market and protect consumers.
