White House suspends Iran strikes before midterms

An American official reported that the White House had suspended planned missile and drone attacks against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz to avoid escalation ahead of the upcoming U.S. midterm elections on November 3. He acknowledged that this halt led Iran to become bolder in launching attacks aimed at raising oil prices and pressuring the Trump administration. As a result, oil prices rose above $109 per barrel, with recent increases in attacks near the Strait of Hormuz over the past few days, and Iran confirming that it is escalating strikes in response to the American blockade of its ports. Previously, Trump had announced that he would not carry out an attack on Iran before the elections. Additionally, U.S. Central Command estimates that Iran’s economic losses amount to roughly $25 billion in frozen oil exports.
