Kurdistan Council warns on ChatGPT fatwas
The Supreme Islamic Fiqh Council in the Kurdistan Region has issued a warning against relying on the "ChatGPT" program to obtain religious fatwas and legal rulings. It emphasized that such reliance is not permissible because the program often lacks trustworthy sources. It clarified that using the application is only allowed if supported and reliable references are provided, and the individual verifies the accuracy of the information themselves. The council also considered seeking religious guidance through machines to be Islamically inadmissible. This statement comes amid widespread debate among religious scholars regarding citizens turning to this technology for fiqh (jurisprudence) matters.
