Iraq rises to 61st in hunger index
Iraq has ranked 61st worldwide on the 2026 Hunger Index, with a score of 11.9 points, reflecting a gradual improvement in food security levels compared to 13.5 points in 2018 and 17.2 in 2012. The data shows that Iraq has moved up one position from last year, surpassing Honduras and approaching Ukraine, which is ranked 60th. The report indicates a reduction in the severity of hunger compared to 2000, when Iraq scored 22.9 points. The assessment is based on indicators such as malnutrition, wasting among children, stunting, and under-five mortality rates. These results signify a gradual improvement, but Iraq still lags behind some Arab countries that are ranked higher.
