Australia lawsuit accuses Meta of exposing children

Meta Platforms faced a class-action lawsuit in the Australian Federal Court, accusing Facebook and Instagram of exposing children and teenagers to harmful content and causing addiction through algorithms. Representing the plaintiffs—eight children who suffered harm before turning eighteen—the lawsuit seeks financial compensation. This is the first legal action in Australia to accuse social media platforms of damaging minor users. The case comes amid the Australian government's efforts to ban social media use for children under 16 and to mandate companies to provide options to disable algorithmic content feeds.
