Kuzo Okamoto, known as "The Japanese Ahmed," passed away at the age of 78 in Beirut. He was one of the perpetrators of the 1972 attack on Lod Airport in Israel. He participated in the attack in cooperation with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Japanese Red Army, as revenge for the Israeli occupation's assault on Beirut Airport in 1968. The attack has been described as one of the most significant operations of resistance in the history of the conflict with Israel. Okamoto spent 13 years in Israeli prisons before being released in 1985 as part of a prisoner exchange deal. Lebanon granted him political asylum in 2000, and he remained in Lebanon until his passing.
