Public Sector Workers Suffer Inflation Impact

A report by the Consumer Association showed that the prices of 140 basic goods and services in Lebanon increased by 19.05% during the first half of 2026. There was a noticeable rise in fuel prices (24%), transportation (49%), and food items such as fruit (22.8%), dairy and cheese (11.5%), bread (10%), and meat (7%). These increases reflect an economic collapse that burden citizens, especially public sector employees, whose salaries are eroding and no longer suffice to cover the minimum living requirements. The National Meeting of Public Sector Employees condemned the economic policies that rely on placing the financial burden on citizens through tax hikes, warning of worsening conditions and expanding poverty. They called for the approval of a fair salary scale and the implementation of reforms to secure employees' rights and improve living conditions.
