Lebanon Death and the Lydd Airport Operation

Japanese-Korean Kuzo Okamoto, known by the nickname "The Japanese Ahmed," passed away in Lebanon. He was linked to the Lod Airport operation in 1972, which he carried out along with his Japanese associates in response to an Israeli airstrike on Beirut Airport in 1968. The operation was launched by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and resulted in the deaths of 26 people and the injury of about 80 others, including non-Israeli civilians. Israel sentenced Okamoto to life imprisonment when he was captured in 1972; he spent 13 years in prison before being released in 1985 as part of a prisoner exchange deal. Afterwards, he went to Lebanon, where he was known as "The Japanese Ahmed," and remained there until his death.
